Information on St Mawes

Today St. Mawes is a popular place for retirement and has an abundance of smart houses, but it also caters for holiday makers and the creek is a haven for yachts. Its force majeure, however, is the Tudor Castle, built in 1542 by Henry V111.

Like Pendennis, across the Roads at Falmouth, St. Mawes castle was built for protection at the time of the wars with the French. It is now administered by English Heritage and can be visited all year round. There is a car park, shop and public conveniences.

Apart form the King Harry Ferry, up river at Trelissick, which takes cars, there are other passenger ferries to Falmouth and across the Percuill river to St. Anthony Head. You can also take boat trips on the estuary from St. Mawes.
