Welcombe Mouth Beach

A secluded and quiet bay located at the end of a rough unmade road. Some of the lanes to get here are quite narrow but it is worth the effort.

Sandy from mid tide onwards, it also offers some excellent rock pools, Welcombe beach is both beautiful and almost always peaceful. A great place for walking the coast path, admiring the fantastic landscape. You will spot local surfers joined by the occasional seal. Much of the land here is owned and managed by the National Trust.

The geology of Welcombe mouth reveals a valley, with a picturesque waterfall, forming the basis of the car park and path down to the beach.

The coastal slopes are filled with classic coastal healthland plants, animals and birds and there's plenty of life in the sea too! Welcombe Mouth is part of the Marshland to Clovelly SSSI for both wildlife and geological interest, and the Tintagel to Clovelly Special Area of Conservation.

Welcombe beach, as you know, is in Devon, and is only listed on these pages as at low tide this beach is linked through to Marsland Mouth Beach, which is the boarder between Cornwall and Devon.

This stretch of coast has inspired writers including Roland Duncan who lived at the nearby Marshland Mouth.

Welcombe Mouth Beach, unfortunately does not have lifeguard cover during the year, so you have to take extra precaution if swimming here. Please be sure to observe the beach safety code.
