Millook Haven

Millook Haven is a mainly coarse shingle and quite large pebbles driven up into a 'storm ridge'. It is located between Widemouth Bay and Crackington Haven. The beach lies at the end of a narrow road and there is very little parking.

Millook Haven lies under the imposing Penalt Cliff. Geologists will find plenty to examine at Millook as the strata is folded into stunning zig-zag folds. In 2014 the cliffs at Millook Haven were voted by the Geological Society of London as one of Britain's top 10 geological sites, leading the "folding and faulting" category. The cliffs display an impressive series of recumbent chevron folds, in Carboniferous age killas of inter-bedded sandstones and shales, originally deposited in deep water.

Experienced surfers sometimes use this beach but it is definitely not for beginners, and is not recognised as a bathing beach.

Millook Haven Beach, unfortunately does not have lifeguard cover during the year, so you have to take extra precaution if swimming here. Please be sure to observe the beach safety code.
