Hayle Towans Beach

Hayle Towans starts at the entrance to the River Hayle and the Estuary and loops round to Black Cliff, which at high water separates it from Mexico Towans and the long stretch of beach known as Hayle Beach.

This impressive stretch of golden sand, that rarely gets crowded, can be accessed from several different places in Hayle. Part of Hayle Towans is often referred to as Harvey’s Towans after the Hayle family that began Harvey’s Foundry that was world famous at the height of the mining era in the 19th Century. Hayle Towans is also known as Upton Towans.

Hayle beach adjacent to the river is opposite Lelant Beach and Porthkidney Sands. Under no circumstances should an attempt be made to cross the river even at low water because of the dangerous strong currents. Swimming in the designated areas only, and when the lifeguards are on duty.

Part of Hayle Beach is next to the estuary, this area can change as the dunes in recent years have either accreted or eroded. But there is usually a strip of sand above the high water. The main part of the beach always has a strip of sand below the dunes at high water and an extensive area of sand at low tide.

Hayle Towans beach has lifeguards during the summer months that patrol each and everyday, from morning till dusk, so you can feel very safe if you fancy a swim. Please be sure to observe the flags, and the beach safety code.
