Hawkers Cove Beach

Right at the mouth of the Camel Estuary there is a delightful little cove by the name of Hawkers Cove, lying in the lee of Stepper Point with fine views across the Estuary to Daymer Bay and Polzeath. There is little or no beach at high water, but as the tide recedes a wonderfully large flat sandy beach is exposed, and joins the neighbouring beach Harbour Cove.

Behind the cove is a row of terraced cottages, pilot cottages, a coastguard lookout and a former lifeboat station. The Lifeboat station dates back to the 1820s, and was built because of the infamous Doom Bar sand bank that had been a perilous hazard to shipping, and housed the original Padstow four man rowing boat. Now no longer a lifeboat station as in 1967 the RNLI move it location to Trevose Head.

Hawkers Cove Beach, unfortunately does not have lifeguard cover during the year, so you have to take extra precaution if swimming here. Please be sure to observe the beach safety code.
